I like that I can get design work, website (back end) work, and API work done for a fraction of the cost of signing an entire contract with retainers and other barriers to entry. It helps make your small-medium business be able to operate like a big business.
The only downside we have encountered so far is that sometimes when we are working, our chosen freelancer is in a different time zone, so there is a bit of a lag/lead time. Otherwise, we haven't had any significant issues.
We are setting up a lot of automation for our company, saving valuable time for our staff to devote to other interactions with Customers where automation cannot replace the human touch. We have also used them quite a lot for design work on marketing materials and web materials for the company.
Transparent and always favor the right parties .Number one freelancing profile in the world right now .I started with $50 work and at present because help of this platform I can able to form a small team whose family also depends on upwork .Thank you once again for this support .Cant expect more than this from Upwork .
Sometimes payment won't go through from buyers . Couple of our projects got canceled because of this.
I am a programmer here and my family is depended on this platform .My team members family also depends on this platform .Specifically during Covid when people lost there jobs Upwork seems to God to them and provide bread and butter to there family .
I love the variety of projects available, and the fact that the site makes us feel safe from scammers. There is the occasional user (client) that doesn't know his way around the platform and wants to meet outside, or make payments outside of the platform, but it doesn't happen AS often any more, and thankfully, the platform has gotten easier to use for both freelancers and clients.
I honestly can't complain. I've been on the site for about 4 years now, and I've seen how its improved over time. Getting paid is much easier, and quicker. There are more insights as to how one is competing against other freelancers for the same job (price wise). Badges make it easier for clients to choose who to hire. Maybe, Freelancers who have been on the site for X amount of time, with a consistent JS score over X should be charged a lower fee per project regardless of how much the bid is. Loyalty kinda thing.
Upwork is where I find all of my clients. Our agency basically runs off of Upwork. I love the fact that if you really put some time in to bidding for jobs, it will yield fruit. We've been able to survive the pandemic without letting go any of our team members, and actually were able to hire another freelancer. The fact that everything is done online and remotely, makes the pandemic MUCH easier to handle. At least work-wise.
The most helpful thing about Upwork is that there is such a large talent pool to be accessed for any project that you can imagine. We've hired for projects in IT, Marketing and Market Research. The Upside with this is that there are individuals in different price points, who can offer a variety of hours from a few to part-time, full-time engagements.
The downside to Upwork doesn't have to do with talent, but I am not a fan of the processing fees. Outside of this, I don't have an issue with talent or utilizing the Upwork website or platform.
The problem we are solving with Upwork is filling our IT gaps in staffing. Our IT team has been behind in projects due to not having the manpower or the time to vet a full-time employee for our team. Upwork helps solve the staffing issue while also helping ensure that we get projects completed to meet all client needs in a timely manner.
How easy it is to find quality talent for exactly the right project.
How I'm emailed about every single thing that happens in Upwork
Too many in-house marketing projects. Hiring freelancers has taken a huge load off our small team's backs.
Easy to post jobs and set milestones. An excellent volume of talent worldwide.
I really don't have negative feedback. I like using the system.
Finding a designer with Adobe Illustrator expertise. Using professionals to help export videos out of Adobe Premiere.
Easy to find talent, open discussions with candidates
Nothing too critical, but even with filtering questions there are disqualified candidates that apply for jobs
Expansion to more IT-related services, obtain benefits of using experts to digitalize our products
Speed of finding good contractors and seamless payment
Fees charged to contractors and 2-year non-hire clause
Upwork allows for quick and easy staff augmentation or the onboarding of specialized skillsets that allow us to grow without adding FTEs.
That we can fill a roll with talent from anywhere across the world within a few days. And that we can work with freelancers on a one-off or an ongoing basis
Sometimes the categories don't match what we are looking for
Access to people when we need it either one off or ongoing and a wider talent pool
In a typical retail shop, people coming inside the store are 50% your customers, the rest of the 50% depends on the product or service retail owner has to sell. Upwork is very similar, clients are 50% customers, they come in with their tasks, problems and ideas, the rest of the 50% depends upon the services mix the freelancer/agency has to offer.
Upwork's private feedback system is like a betrayal system, where the client always has an option to stab you in the back. It is easier for a client to make another profile, or win freelancers with multiple profiles, but it is difficult for the freelancer / agencies to maintain their profile, after all it is their baby which they build.
I had a few people free on the bench with my agency, I am making the best use of them on upwork. I am initiating a long term company strategy with upwork, training program for the fresh youth of my country who could get hands on experience with upwork projects while getting paid for their efforts. We will be building an incubation center in our city !
